Listening to Silence

So school holidays are over. Six weeks of late nights, sleepovers, building tipees in the garden, cycling in Thetford Forest and doing High Ropes courses have come to an end. I love spending so much time with the kids. It doesn't matter if lunch gets missed or dinner is really, really late. But I openly admit that when they go back to school I absolutely love the peace and quiet!

As much as I adore all the gorgeous things that make Summer Holidays what they are, I get really stressed about dragging two kids out to walk the dogs, about trying to get some work done when I know they have been on Minecraft for far too long and, constantly picking up stuff that gets dropped around the entire house and garden at an alarming rate, non of which has been dumped by me, is a sure fire way to really wind me up!

And so this morning my heart felt a bit heavy as I said Goodbye to Thing 1 and watched him go to get on the School Bus for his first day in secondary school and I felt a twinge of sadness as I hugged Thing 2 goodbye at the gates to Year Four in primary. But I also felt a lightness in my step as I headed home, picked up the dog leads and headed out across the fields in the warm September sun to spend time with just the dogs, listening to silence!
