​This month we are talking to Sandy Ruddock of Scarlett & Mustard

​Where are you based?

In Earl Soham, near Framlingham, Suffolk

 

​How long have you been in business and is it a family business?

We are a family run business, started in early 2012 from the kitchen table using our own tried and tested family recipes.
 

Tell me a bit about your products – how many different products do you do?

We have a core range of five dressings which can be used as marinades and cooking sauces.  Our key ingredients are all sourced from within 10 miles of our kitchen - rapeseed oil from Hillfarm and vinegars from Aspalls.  We also bring out a limited edition to keep things seasonsal.

Our current range is:

Auntie Frog’s Lime & Chilli Dressing – a great marinade and brilliant for stir fries – best seller

Scarlett’s Ornamental Ginger & Soy Sauce – our Great Taste Winner 2012 – also a best seller

Big Bear’s Honey Dressing – wonderful with cold meats, salads and new potatoes

Rosie’s Doo-Dah Sauce – classic dressing but also a lovely marinade, delicious with slow roasted veg

Granny’s Original Tarragon Dressing – my great grandmother’s recipe – oil free & delicious

 

We also have a range of infused oils, again using rapeseed oil and the truffle oil has just won a Great Taste Award 2013.  They are Dill Oil, Basil Oil and Truffle Oil all using truffles grown in England.

 

Have you got a funny story you can share?

My son Oliver came up with the idea for the business when sitting at home dipping chunks of bread in Granny’s Dressing – he set up a stall outside our house and put out the dressing plus some other home-made things – including our sweet chilli jam which has also just won a Great Taste Award and which will be put into production soon – and had sold out within 2 hours!
